the photos on Minimalia
The issues of recovering visions of man and about man move along paths that are too well known.

Today, taking photographs is difficult.

It is as difficult as human constructions have always been, when in this process of construction thought must necessarily intervene, a category that photography or the world around it seems to want to deny or set aside.
I've never been interested in doing 'makeover' operations.

Everything is already present in the photographic image, nothing else needs to be added.

The aesthetic and formal gesture is already included in the act of photographing.
Luigi Ghirri
I practice photography as a self-taught amateur photographer.

Subjects and places portrayed in Minimalia are captured in their spontaneous offering to the gaze. No attempt is made to collaborate with people, nor is there any preparation or alteration of the scenes photographed.

I photograph almost exclusively with manual or semi-automatic programs, to retain control over at least one shooting parameter and to minimize as much as possible the influence of the camera.

I use a neutral filter permanently mounted to protect the lens and to shield from unwanted effects of ultraviolet light, no other filters or systems for integrating or correcting natural light.

I prefer to give up perfect sharpness and clarity of the image if it means preserving as much as possible the genuineness of certain atmospheres.

For this reason, I intentionally avoid using the flash, and when I do use it, in exceptional cases, the priority remains not to distort the scene, allowing natural lighting conditions to prevail.

In the equally rare cases in which I decide to use particular camera features in search of a specific effect, the intervention is limited to a choice made at the time of shooting, and the artificiality of the images thus obtained will be clearly explicit and recognizable even to an untrained eye.

After shooting, I do not subject the images to any digital manipulation, which would contradict the very essence of photography by distorting it into something else, limiting myself only to interventions strictly necessary to preserve the intellectual property of the images.

Peculiar tones and colors or unusual plays of light and shadow present in the images are therefore nothing more than the result of choices, always made at the time of shooting, regarding the type and area of exposure measurement, or any exposure corrections according to the desired figurative rendering.

I consider it superfluous, as well as misleading, to provide further technical information beyond the necessary clarifications made on the subject of "shooting ethics", such as the type and characteristics of the camera used or the shooting parameters, just as I do not direct towards particular publications and manuals on the subject.

Photography is, above all, thought and vision, and it is simply from this awareness that one should start in order to build credible representations through images. If this is so, any emphasis on the technical aspects of photography should be decidedly reduced, since no technical obstacle can be so limiting as to preclude the achievement of that result or, even worse, to discourage venturing into the wonderful world of photography.
