To photograph is to hold one's breath when all our faculties of perception converge in the face of fleeing reality. To photograph is to align the head, the eye, and the heart on the same line of sight.

A photograph is, for me, to simultaneously recognize, in a fraction of a second, on one hand the meaning of a fact and on the other the rigorous organization of the visually perceived forms that this fact expresses.

In photography, the instant is at the same time the question and the answer.

What interests me is to participate in life. To capture the instant in its fullness. Thought alone is not enough for me. Photography is manual work: moving, shifting. The body and the spirit must be one.

Henri Cartier-Bresson
The snapshots of Cartier-Bresson seize man in a flash without giving him
the time to be superficial.

At a hundredth of a second we are all the same,
all in the sincerity of our human condition.

Jean-Paul Sartre
Photography is the form par excellence.

Captured in an instant of its fluid meaning, of its not consisting, life suddenly and forever stops, freezes, takes on consistency, identity, meaning.

It is a form that speaks of the past, gives meaning to the present, predicts the future.

Leonardo Sciascia
