What always got me moving was the morning light, never reasoning.
Long journeys have always unsettled me. I can't stand the scornful looks of the locals. I am ashamed.
In Paris, I am the local, blended into the crowd. I am part of the scenery: average Frenchman, average height, distinguishing features: none. Discreet, efficient, I blend into the flock of pedestrians.
You have to have the courage to plant yourself in one spot and stay still: and not for a few minutes, but for a good hour, maybe even two. You have to turn yourself into a statue without a pedestal, and it's funny, in these cases, to see how much you can attract the castaways of movement.
To see, sometimes, means to build yourself, with the means at your disposal, a little theater and wait for the actors.
I never asked myself why I took photographs.
In reality, mine is a desperate battle against the idea that we are all destined to disappear.
Iam determined to prevent time from flowing. It's pure madness.
